Chili-news!

Wanna buy some chili?

Wanna buy some chili?

Wow I really have started getting used to chili. Today I ate Som Tam (papayasalad) with 6 chilis without even thinking. Extreme! I still dont really get it how its possible… Last week I ordered ”fried tuna something” but I got small fish with the bones still left and spiced with about 7 chilis. But this time I was almost crying, because it was so spicy! As a stubborn girl I ate almost everything, exept for some of the fish with the bones and 4 whole chilis. Its quite interesting that most of the thai peaople are sweating when eating chili, I just start crying.

Yesterday I went to my chinese friends home. We cooked some really delicious food, it was heavenly good. I have really got to like the Essan food here. My friend made a chinese dish and the rest was thai food. Ill put up some pictures tomorrow. I really like the thing that the people are making the food together, we sit on the floor and there are so many different dishes. A good way to always taste a little bit of everything! As you can see I have got to start disussing one of my favourite subjects again…food!

Im quite lost about all the celebrations, when is it really easter? Man…at home it’s not hard to forget it, but here where all the seasons are mixed up its not easy to get what time of the year it is. Strange to imagine that its winter at home. Here it has been like summer all year around!

Today was my day off. At five o’clock I went out of my apartment for the first time today. I went swimming, really nice. Last Monday  I was about to go swimming, but then I was hanging at the Mud café too long. So I was happy I could go today! Unfortunately I didn’t do any streching, so tomorrow I might have a little bit of pain… Later on I bought food at the nightmarket. I ate really yummy BBQ sticks and salad. My dessert was ripe mango with sweet sticky rice. This is a must try for everyone!

Last week I bought this really cute white skirt and necklace. I love the owls, they are adorable. Suddenly I just got an urge to buy cute things, I dont really know why.

Last Friday I wisited my friend in a village outside Khon Kaen. I got to visit her mum who works at the local hospital, it was so fun beeing introduced the workers there. They really have cool uniforms.. We ate real Isaan food: Som Tam (papayasalad) Kao Niao (sticky rice) and gaiang (bbq chicken). Yummy! They ordered for me Dam Thai without chili, it was really sweet and tasty. But since I still wanted to have some spicy stuff I dipped it into chili sauce. Mm… Sometimes I even think the sandwiches that we eat for breakfast should have some chili in it because it doesnt taste so much, comparing to Som Tam.

At the mountain

My friend showed me around in her village, it was really pretty with all the thai- houses and small shops everywhere. At the local market we bought some thai-sweets and lemon drink. I was also looking for a small kao niao box, but they didnt have the one I desired.  When we were about to go to the mountain it suddenly started raining. Exept for one night some weeks ago I havent seen rain in several months, so this was quite extraordinary! Fortunately it didn’t rain that much so we could go anyway. There were many eucaluptys trees at the mountain, so it smelled really good -thanks to the rain. I really enjoyed beeing in the forest, I wish we would have had more time to spend there. Like several hours.

Söndag kryddad med glädje och galangal

Smycken

Mm…life is good.

There have been so many times I wish I’d have a camera

Camera

with me, especially on the road when driving. I’ve seen people riding the motorbike with a computer in their lap. Im not talking about a laptop but about a stationary pc! I would never dare to do that! Every day I see people riding 3 or 4 persons on a motorbike and it’s nothing unordinary. I have to admit that I have been driving with 3 persons on my motorbike. There werent any other solution and it wasnt actually as hard as I thought it would be. Once I even saw a baby sitting the basket at the front of the motorbike, dangerous stuff…

I think the thai people are experts of transporting things on the motorbike, I like that! Nothing is impossible :D. This week I saw a man transporting a load of shrimps on his motorbike and there used to be a food-stall passing the church quite often. It would be so hilarious to try to order something from the  food-stalls that are transported on the highway! Sometimes sizzling coal is falling off from the food stall, like they are still making food on the road, haha.

I’ve discovered that it aint that hard to drive with high heels. Just using my toes when changing the gear. Sometimes it can be a bit hard to get the motorbike started thou. Its that kind of one that you have to kick to get it started (hard to explain, but to you understand? Its half-automatic). But then I just take of theshoe and starting it barefoot. I really ejoy wearing high heels, its the best <3.

Almost every day I see something fun, so Ill report here on my blog when I got something new!

Kimchi!

3 03 2009

Today I woke up with a sore throat and very sleepy. Me, Maria and Linus were about to go to the lake swimming and relaxing, but now we had to change our plans. I had been looking forward going there, so it wasn’t fun canceling it. Its better thou that I stay home today and get well.

Gyoza and kimchi

I lunch time I got really hungry and decided to go out eating. We went to a japanese restaurant five minutes from my home. I ate gyoza-dumplings (my home-made were better) and kimchi-Korean cabbage salad. Ive wanted to try kimchi for a long time and now I got the opportunity! The verdict: it was really good and not spicy even thou the whole salad was colored red. The food somehow reminded me of home…strange huh? I think it might be because I used to make a lot of japanese food when I lived in Sweden. Nice anyway!

Hälsobringande teNow Im at my apartment again and trying to take it easy… Ive bought a lot of stuff that will help my body to get strong and fight the cold. But Im not really sure in what way Ill eat the garlic i bought. Usually I make a drink with lemon, honey and raw garlic, but this time I just got garlic. Uhu. I hope the ginger tea will be enough because eating raw garlic can be kinda suicidal, lol. I also bought mangosteen juice that conscist 170% Vitamine C of the daily intake. Mm…i like that!  Does anyone have a good tip about how to get well? Tell me if so!

Last week I realized that I havent been taking many pictures at all. It was so easy before when I had a phone with camera in it, but since it got wet during the raining period Im using an old Nokia that my aunt Eivor gave me. I have been too lazy bringin my camera with me when I go somewhere, but now there will be a change about that!

Kymmenen pistettä ja papukajan merkki

2 03 2009
